"Love is as strong as death" (The Song of Songs 8.6) We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You.  Because by Your Holy Cross, You have brought new life to the world. Christ's Life Your mother sees you whipped, kicked and driven like a beast.  She counts your wounds.  Though her soul cries out in agony, no protest or complaint escapes her lips, or even enters her thoughts.  She shares your martyrdom and you share her pain.  This is the meaning of love.  Your mother who asked the question, "My child, why have you done this to us?"  knows that true love is painful.
