1. We believe that there are three
that bear record in Heaven
The Father, the
Son, and the Holy Ghost, and that these three are
one. (1John 5:7, John 10:30)
2. We believe
that the scriptures of the old and new testaments
are the word of God, and the only rule of faith
and practice. (2Peter 1:21, 2Timothy 3:16,
Hebrews 1:1-2)
3. We believe
in the doctrine of eternal and particular
election. (Ephesians 1:4, 1Peter 1:2, Romans
8:29, 9:11, John 6:39)
4. We believe
in the doctrine of original sin. (Romans 5:12,
17, 19, 1Corinthians 15:21, Genesis 2:17, 3:6)
5. We believe
in mans impotency to recover himself from
the fallen state he is in by his own free will
and ability. (John 6:44, 65, Ephesians 2:1,
10, Colossians 2:13)
6. We believe
that sinners are justified in the sight of God
only by the imputed righteousness of Jesus
Christ. (Romans 10:4, 1Corinthians 1:30,
Isaiah 53:11)
7. We believe
that Gods elect shall be called,
regenerated, and sanctified by the Holy Ghost. (John
6:63, 2 Timothy 1:9, Romans 3:20)
8. We
believe that the Saints shall persevere in grace
and never fully fall away. (John 10:28, 6:39, 44,
1John 3:9, Romans 3:28, 1Peter 1:5)
9. We believe
that baptism and the Lords supper are
ordinances of Jesus Christ, and that true
believers are the only subjects of these
ordinances, and we believe the true mode of
baptism is immersion.(Mark 1:9, Romans 6:4,
Luke 22:14, John 13:5, Acts 8:37) Note: Baptize
is from Greek baptize meaning immerse.
10. We believe
in the resurrection of the dead, and a general
judgment. (John 5:28-29, 1Corinthians
15:12-13, 22-23, 1Thessalonians 4:16, Matthew
25:31, Romans 14:10)
11. We believe
the punishment of the wicked will be everlasting,
and the joys of the righteous will be eternal. (Matthew
25:46, 24:34, Daniel 12:2, John 5:28-29)
12. We believe
no minister has a right to the administration of
the ordinances only such as are regularly called,
and come under the imposition of the hands of the
presbytery.(Mark 3:13, 1Timothy 4:14,
Ephesians 4:11-12)
These articles
of faith were copied from records of Tallapoosa
Primitive Baptist Church exactly as they were
written in 1830.
These articles
are in no way intended to take precedent over
Scripture. As you can see, in the articles
themselves, we hold that Scripture is our only
rule of faith and practice. However, articles of
faith, such as these, are useful in identifying
the basic doctrines for which a particular church
stands. We hold these articles forth to say this
is what we believe the Holy Word of God teaches.
