General Notices

Website Manager Wanted - this should be a lively site containing up to date information so that parishioners and visitors alike can find out about the latest news and about events going on in the parish. All it takes is a little computer knowledge and an hour or so a week to keep the site ticking over. Full training given if required. If you're at all interested, please see Father Colin, or contact the webmaster by e-mail.

Volunteers - An appeal goes out for cleaners and flower arrangers. We have an open policy for men or women. Please let Irene or Ray know if you are interested. You'll be welcomed with open arms.

Books for children - Do you have any biblical or sketch books that the young children can look at on Sundays ?

Harvest Festival for the Homeless - Both Framework and Emmanuel House have requested us to support their annual appeal for non perishable foodstuffs. Please place donations in the red box in the church entrance which will then be shared between the two charities.

The Hang Out

At Long Last, after much deliberation and consideration, and following clamouring demand we are pleased to announce that the Hang Out will now meet EVERY Tuesday at 7:30pm (during term time!) at The Assumption, Beeston. Hurrah! Come along and find out how good it is to Hang out on a Tuesday with the in crowd.

Mass Intentions and Mass Offerings

We have very many requests for Mass Intentions and, where possible we will try to accommodate your chosen date. Please help by giving as much notice as possible and please indicate whether the intention is for a deceased person.

When asking for a Mass to be said, some people ask how much it costs. There is no charge, but it has been the custom to make an offering to the priest to provide for his needs for the day when the Mass is celebrated. This custom originated in the early church, when gifts in kind were brought to the Altar at the Offertory, bread, meat, fruit, wine, clothes etc. and the priest took from these gifts sufficient for his day’s sustenance and the rest was distributed among the poor and needy.

Gift Aid

Have you have ever considered filling in a Gift Aid form? Perhaps you have wondered "What difference could I really make?" Well, you may be interested to hear that Mr Brown has just credited the Assumption accounts with over £6,000 for the previous tax year. This is the amount we have been able to claim back based on the planned giving (envelopes) scheme. Now does that convince you that Gift Aid is a good idea? If you would like to know more, please speak to  Kathleen Mortimer. She will be happy to provide you with all the information you will need. Thank you.

Parish Pastoral Council

At the initial meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council, the following officers were duly elected:

Chairman               Lloyd Hamilton

Vice Chairman      Paul Heery

Secretary               Karen Davies

The meeting then went on to discuss the formation of a constitution and other minor items on the agenda.  Many thanks to all those who agreed to serve on the PPC and to all those who were involved in the setting up of the initial Council. Please keep the members of the council in your prayer that their work may bear fruit in the Parish.
