The Partnership
Act Of Commitment
We the people of the Swindon Old Town
Partnership of Churches,
commit ourselves, without reserve or limit, to continue to work
and grow together
as one. In fullfilment of our commitment we intend:-
By the power of the Holy Spirit, to rededicate ourselves to
fulfil these intentions, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, and
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.
The Partnership Prayer
Father, who wills all things to be one in Christ, give us
singleness of purpose to express this unity in our Partnership, that
those around us may witness our life together and turn to Him who
is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
The Partnership
The Ecumenical Parish of Old Town Swindon was formed on the 19th
March 1969 and has the distinction of being the oldest Ecumenical
Parish in the country. On 19th March 2001 the title was changed to the Swindon Old Town
Partnership of Churches at the inaugural Partnership Council meeting.
The four constituent churches maintain their own worship and
buildings, but the partnership is run by the Partnership Council which
controls all training, pastoral work, social work and work with
young people.
The symbol of the partnership shows the churches pointing into the
Cross and, at the same time, pointing out from the Cross into the
world.
You might be asking what the word "Ecumenical"
means. The answer is - the whole world. The reason for this is
that Jesus said "go and make disciples of all the
nations".
In Old Town Swindon we want to take that seriously, and since
1969 we have endeavoured to do nothing on our own that could do
better as a team.
We welcome you to that team.
